About the book: The Saudi Expat is a true story of two girls living in Saudi Arabia, leading parallel lives with very different experiences. Both are daughters of expats, as millions of other expats that serve the Saudi community every day – since and even before the oil boom several decades ago. Saudi Arabia is a harsh climate and environment, with the facilities of the West, the culture intertwined with nomadic culture that has enough money to live the lives of the urbanites and the diverse ethnicities of the rich and poor expats that live there. The children of expats see Saudi Arabia as home and yet one day they all have to leave, some of them bitter, some of them sad. The Saudi Expat – being a true story – touches about the different types of people but focuses more on Yasmin and Hira’s story, who were from a class of ‘lucky’ expats to have been given the nationality. One loved it – the other hated it. If you enjoy the story or are curious about something, do leave a comment. Thank you.
